Blending cotton and silk for a great running shirt

A lightweight cotton T-shirt built for running
At HERENESS, our goal is to create activewear made from natural materials as much as possible. After developing our Smooth Wool line [link to product], we turned our attention to cotton. While this popular fabric is comfortable, it's not ideal for running apparel as it absorbs moisture (your sweat) and doesn't dry quickly, which can leave you feeling damp and cold. Thicker cotton can also feel rough on your skin. Our answer is the COTTON×SILK T-shirt -- a lightweight, quick-dry tee that is luxuriously soft.

Ultra-fine cotton yarn + silk
In textitle, thread count is the number of threads woven into one square inch of fabric, indicating how tight the weave is. Generally, the higher the thread count, the finer the fabric. Our COTTON×SILK T-shirt has a thread count of 62 using ultra-thin yarn, much higher than the thread count of 10 to 20 for a typical cotton shirt. To give this tee its signature luxurious feel, we developed a special 62-ply thread that twists cotton yarn with silk at a spinning mill in India. The addition of silk results in cotton running shirt that is lightweight and lives up to the expectations of our team at HERENESS.

Organic cotton from India
While cotton is a versatile and comfortable material, the enivironmental impact and labor conditions around cotton cultivation are also major concerns. Responsible sourcing is important to us, which is why we chose to use organic cotton from India. Organic cotton is grown without the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers for 2 to 3 years, adhering to strict standards. To be recognized as organic cotton, growers must also comply with labor safety standards.

World's leading GOTS certified
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the world's leading textile processing standards for organic fibers. It defines environmental and social requirements, and covers the entire supply chain from processing and manufacturing to distribution. Specifically, it prohibits the use of GMO technology, highly toxic agents such as azo dyes, and child labor. It also sets standards for wastewater treatment and compliance with social norms. By using GOTS certified fabric, we ensure our COTTON×SILK shirt is sustainably and ethically made.
