HIGH-DENSITY WOVEN WOOL

A windbreaker that is warm yet breathable

One of the biggest issues for runners in cooler weather is that windbreakers can start to feel stuffy once they start moving. As a result, the typical windbreaking jacket today is lightweight and portable so it can be removed mid-run.

The REAL WOOL WIND JACKET is different: It uses a high-density fabric that effectively shields you from the wind, while the moisture-wicking ability of wool keeps you from overheating. The fabric may look like synthetic outdoor wear, but the ultra-fine 17.5-micron wool yarn used gives the jacket a surpising softness. It has a water-repellent finish to keep you dry in light rain (please note that it is not waterproof).

Designed with movement in mind

The cut of the jacket was carefully designed to ensure it doesn't impede movement. The gently sloping raglan sleeves and slimmer armholes are tailored for easy arm swing, while the hood collar is high enough to provide protection against the wind even when the hood is down. The drawstring at the back of the hood allows you to adjust the fit of the hood so it doesn't flop around or get blown back by the wind.

Water repellent without harmful chemicals

Flourinated finishing agents that repel water and oil were commonly used in the past to make clothing water resistant, but they may have adverse effects on the environment as well as human health. In 2006, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency called on manufacturers to phase out the use of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). Today, garment finishes containing PFOA (C8 water repellents) are no longer used.

Progress has been made to improve the performance of PFOA-free finishing substances (C6 water repellents) while research on fluorine-free water repellents is advancing. At HERENESS, we strive to use the most advanced water-repellent treatments available to minimize the impact of our products on the environment.

  • SUGARCANE PLYESTEL
  • Why non-mulesed merino wool?

New Zealand has decided to ban mulesing (the process of removing skin from sheep buttocks), and the wool we use is 100% sourced from Merino sheep in New Zealand. We believe that wool is a gift from sheep, and we should not support any practices that cause in their suffering. As a brand promoting the benefits of wool, we are committed to advocating for animal welfare.
