Our go-to mountain wool shirt — rethought from the fabric up.
MOUNTAIN WOOL SHIRT 2
We started with the fabric
The original MOUNTAIN WOOL brought wool's temperature control and polyester's performance into a single shirt — a staple for moving between mountain and city. This update keeps that ease, but rethinks the fabric itself. We chose a tropical wool woven from 100s two-ply yarn: a light, plain-woven cloth made from fine wool, known for its airflow and crisp, dry hand.
Not woven too tight, so heat has somewhere to go. It feels supple in the hand, and lighter than before. The first thing you'll notice is how light it sits the moment you slip it on.
158cm / Size XS
174cm / Size M
A silhouette shaped on the mountain
Like every HERENESS piece, the MOUNTAIN WOOL SHIRT is built to move between active days and everyday life.
Traditional climbing shirts tend to run tight, which can feel a little out of place around town. We gave this one a relaxed cut that pairs easily with whatever you're wearing.
But it's still a mountain shirt — it can't get in the way once a pack is on your back. After a lot of trial and error with the armhole width and the way the shoulders fall, we found a shape that keeps you moving freely even under a loaded pack.
We also switched the original's snap buttons for standard sewn-on buttons, making repairs that much easier.

Why non-mulesed merino wool?
New Zealand has decided to ban mulesing (the process of removing skin from sheep buttocks), and the wool we use is 100% sourced from Merino sheep in New Zealand. We believe that wool is a gift from sheep, and we should not support any practices that cause in their suffering. As a brand promoting the benefits of wool, we are committed to advocating for animal welfare.
